關于書房的起源，最早見于文字記載的相關詞匯有隋唐時期的書樓、草堂、別業(yè)等，多為文人給自己的居所起的別名，如輞川別業(yè)、江外草堂、廬山草堂等。從中，我們不難想象古人在自己的書樓、草堂、別業(yè)里詩書風雅的情景，其居所可看作是書房最早的雛形。在歷史的演變進程中，文人讀書環(huán)境也不斷演變，成為了現(xiàn)代家居的重要部分。
